Global New York Experience - To John Berger

To John Berger:
Global encounters- New York was not only just a fun and enjoyable experience, but an eye-opening one as well. Spending the week with 27 guys from your school doing service work to help the poor, is not usually the average’s high-school student’s idea of an ideal vacation, but I would not trade this experience for the world. Not only did we bond with our friends on this project, but we met new people and all came together as one. This trip really gave me the impression that only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile. Sometimes in our everyday lives we get caught in the hype of everything going on around us, and begin to only care about ourselves. This week was a step back from all the hype and the busyness, and we got the chance to reach out to other people for a change. It made me realize that we all can be materialistic at times, but you can not judge a man on what he has, you must see past that and judge a man for his character and value. On Global New York we were given the opportunity to compare and contrast the riches and the poor of the city. After getting to experience both, I came to realize that the poor seemed to have a better outlook on life. I feel as if the poor try and live everyday to the fullest, and even though they don’t have a lot of materialistic goods they sure have a lot of heart. The rich seem to get caught up in their jobs and families and when they see a beggar on the street they just keep on walking. I think the poor, by far, have a better understanding to live life to the fullest. It is almost impossible to find happiness when you only care about yourself and don’t take the time out to help others, and I learned this first hand on GNY. I came to realize that a man who serves for the good of others is serving for the good of himself. After working with the poor for eight days it really opened my eyes, before I always thought the poor people were mean and scary but know I know that they are some of the nicest and most caring people in the world.

Destiny

What up ya'll just informing yallabout a little thing we like to call DESTINY. Friday 30 April, 2010 is the official draft day for destiny. As I'm hoping you all would know the World Cup is swiftly approaching this coming 11 June, 2010. SOOOOO. Charles Templeton had a genius idea and decided to make some fun out of the upcoming tournament. Heres how it works. 32 teams in the world cup right? 32 guys. All 32 guys names will be put in a hat and picked. Whatever order you get drafted you will get to pick your teams name out of another hat in the order you were drafted. Good luck to all participants, see yall friday.

Holy Cross Hires Milan Brown

Athletic Director Richard M. Regan, Jr., announced today that Milan Brown will relieve Sean Kearney as the head men's basketball coach at the College of the Holy Cross. “I am extremely excited about the opportunity to come to Holy Cross and to try to lead the program back to the top of the Patriot League,” said Brown. “My family and I are really pleased about the move, and I cannot wait to get started. I would also like to thank Mr. Regan, Fr. McFarland and the search committee, for entrusting me with leading these young men both on and off the court.”
It will be very interesting to see what Brown will do in his tenature as head coach at Holy Cross. Brown is leaving behind his coaching duties at Mount Saint Mary's, where he served for seven years. During his last three years on the mount his teams posted a 54-44 record but did not win the league.

“We were very focused on hiring someone with head coaching experience, and we were very impressed with Milan both as a coach and a person. We were particularly pleased with the outstanding recommendations we received from a most important source – several coaches who coached against him over the past few years. One thing that was clear, both from his records and what those coaches told us, is that his players defend very well and they play very hard for him. We think that is particularly appropriate for the players in this program right now.” Said Holy Cross athletic director Dick Regan.

Brown has been a participant in the "Runway to the Fashionable 4" in each of the past four seasons for the best-dressed head coaches in NCAA Division I by www.CollegeInsider.com, advancing to the "Elegant Eight" this past year. He also has a website, www.MilanBrown.com, which features updates, camp information and other interesting facts.

PRucker 2010

First off, I would like to start off by thanking the Perron's for their time, hard work, and generosity put forth to making this tournament the success that it is every year. Secondly, I would like to thank Matty Cafferella and Will Templeton for doing the video and stats throughout the day. The tournament was well run as usual, but i have come to give my imput, along with a few suggestions.
A couple of suggestions for next year's tournament:
1) Timed Games- Initiating timed games would benefit PRucker in a number of ways. This way we could have a set schedule and eliminate a lot of waiting around for your next game. I am posing we play two 6-minute halves. This would increase the intensity of the tournament, adding the last second shot aspect and such. Yes, this poses the question about dribbling the clock out. I think that we would have to initiate maybe a 15-second shot clock. Yes, this may be tough to do but then again I feel that it would definitely benefit the tournament in the long run.

Also I would like to apologize because some of the video's were deleted by whoever was running the computers at the tournament. Also I would like to congratulate Richard Rodgers and Tobey Belton on their title. This is Richard's second consecutive title. Congratulations, and thank you to all participants.

PIONEERS ADVANCE TO MASSACHUSETTS STATE SEMIFINALS: Saint John's continues play in the 2010 Massachusetts State Tournament on Tuesday, March 9, when it travels to Springfield for the semifinals at 7:45 p.m. The winner of the Saint John's-Longmeadow game will move on to face the Central Catholic-Madison Park winner in the championship game on Saturday, March 13. For the fourth straight year, all games in the Massachusetts State Tournament will be played on the court of a neutral location.

PIONEERS LOOK FOR SECOND STRAIGHT TOURNAMENT CROWN: Last year ago, the Pioneers captured their third Massachusetts State Tournament championship with their 80-62 victory over Lynn English on March 14, 2009. Saint Johns previous tournament titles came in 2000 and 2009 and are hoping for another in 2010. The Pioneer's three state tournament championships are the most in Central Mass history. Overall, the Pioneers have made a conference-record six appearances in the Massachusetts State championship game.

Three Peat

Worcester, MA, Harrington Auditorium- In what shaped up to be a great match-up the Saint Johns Pioneers defeated the North High school Polar Bears by a final score of 58-35 in a very physical and competitive game among some 3,008 people on the campus of the Worcester Poly technical Institute. The Pioneers took a 18-14 lead going into the break at the half. The Polar Bears came out gunning and took their first lead of the game 21-20 with 6:26 left in the third quarter. That was enough for the Pioneers as they came out strong of and offensive spark by a three-ball from Junior Guard Matt Harrington. Saint John's closed out the quarter with a 19-4 run to go up 39-25. Senior Center Chad Labove totaled 14 points, eight of which came in the third quarter. Senior Guard Brian Perron played outstanding defense once again, and for the most part shut down North's Gaetano Iacovone. There was no looking back after that for Saint Johns as they continued to go on and claim their third district title in three years. In the '07-'08 year the Pioneers were led to a state semi-final appearance as well as in the '08-'09 season claimed the Massachusetts state title.Saint John's Senior David White lead all scorers with 15 points. Bennett Knowlton totaled 8 points as well as a tremendous performance by Junior Guard Richard Rodgers who contributed 13 points. Saint John's will play the winner of the Western Mass Championship Game, being played today, between East Longmeadow and Westfield in a state semifinal at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, MA.
